Essay Architects.
For JC students who want to dominate General Paper. Sophisticated argumentation, nuanced analysis, essays that move markers. The complete A-Level GP essay programme.
GP is brutal. We make it winnable.
A-Level General Paper is designed to separate the top band from everyone else. At Singapore's most competitive JCs the curve is merciless, and a B-grade essay can feel like a failure even when the work is solid.
Essay Architects is built for JC students aiming at A or B and above. We teach you how to construct sophisticated arguments, weave in nuanced counter-positions, and write essays that demonstrate the intellectual maturity markers are looking to reward.
Our students have walked out of Promos and A-Levels with the kind of moves that change university admissions: D to B, or B to A.
Six A-grade skills. University-ready.
These are not exam tricks. They are the actual critical thinking skills your child will need at university and beyond.
Sophisticated Argumentation
Build layered thesis statements. Sustain an argument across 800+ words. Know when to concede, when to counter, when to escalate.
Global Contextual Awareness
Deploy relevant current affairs, historical precedent, and cross-cultural evidence. No more vague "some people say" filler.
Nuanced Counter-Argumentation
Acknowledge opposition without weakening your case. Strategic concession as a tool of persuasion, not surrender.
Elevated Register
A-grade essays sound different. Formal but not stiff. Intellectual but not pretentious. We teach the exact register markers look for.
Question Decoding
Most JC students misread GP questions on autopilot. We train you to unpack hidden demands, key terms, and implicit premises in 60 seconds.
90-Minute Execution
Plan, structure, and deliver a polished 800-word essay in 90 minutes with zero panic. Drilled to automaticity.
Strategic progression. No wasted weeks.
Each module builds directly on the last. By Week 12, your child is writing to A-grade standard consistently.
Diagnostic & Thesis Craft
Assess current writing level. Introduce the A-grade thesis architecture. First diagnostic essay marked in depth.
Argument Scaffolding
PEEL taken further. How to sustain an argument across 5 paragraphs without repetition or drift.
Evidence & Currency
Build a personal database of 50+ current affairs examples, historical cases, and academic references you can cite under pressure.
Counter-Argumentation
The art of the concession. Weave opposing views into your essay to demonstrate balanced analysis.
Topic Mastery
Deep dives into the 7 most frequently tested GP topics: ethics, technology, media, politics, environment, education, and the arts.
Full Exam Simulation
Three full-length 90-minute essay practices under authentic exam conditions. Detailed feedback on each.
One paragraph. B-grade vs A-grade.
Same prompt: "Is globalisation a threat to cultural identity?" Same student, before and after Essay Architects.
Generic
"Globalisation has both good and bad effects. Some people say it destroys culture because everyone watches the same movies. But others say it helps culture spread. For example, Korean culture is now popular all over the world. So globalisation is not a threat to culture."
Vague claims. No specific evidence. No logical structure. Generic examples. Surface-level analysis.
Sophisticated
"The assumption that globalisation necessarily threatens cultural identity rests on a fragile premise, that cultures are static entities vulnerable to external contamination. Yet the rise of K-pop, which borrows liberally from Western hip-hop while retaining distinctly Korean sensibilities, suggests the opposite: cultures under globalised pressure often hybridise into more potent, more resilient forms. The real threat lies not in cultural exchange, but in the economic asymmetries that determine whose culture travels."
Challenges the premise. Specific case with a nuanced reading. Intellectual register. Demonstrates higher-order thinking.
"GP was destroying me. D7 in Block Tests. Three months with Ms Shiny and I got an A in my Promos, the first A I've ever scored in any paper. She broke down essay architecture in a way no JC tutor ever did."Lucas T. · D7 to ARaffles Institution · JC Promos 2024

Common questions, answered.
JC lectures focus on topic content, such as climate change, ethics and technology. We focus on how to write about those topics at A-grade level. Most students know the content but cannot structure an A-grade essay around it. That is the gap we close.
Yes. A large share of our A-Level students come from the most competitive colleges, and the programme is calibrated to A-grade outcomes rather than pass-grade ones, using Cambridge past papers and question types pitched at that level.
Not too late, but go with the 1:1 intensive. Three months of weekly one-to-one coaching is enough time to rebuild essay structure properly, provided you start immediately rather than after Prelims. How far the grade moves depends on the starting point, and Ms Shiny will give you an honest read after the diagnostic essay.
Strongly recommended for JC2 students. GP is scored across both papers, so weakness in either drags the overall grade down. A 15% bundle discount applies.
Yes. A 45-minute trial session with Ms Shiny, at no charge. You'll write one paragraph, get it marked live, and see exactly how the programme works.
