About Our Programmes.
6 questions · 2 min readIt depends on which exam paper your child is weakest in. We offer four specialist programmes:
- Elite Writers, O-Level Paper 1 (essays)
- Compre Conquerors, O-Level Paper 2 (comprehension)
- Essay Architects, A-Level GP Paper 1
- Compre Commandos, A-Level GP Paper 2
Most students benefit from joining both the Paper 1 and Paper 2 programmes for their level, and a 15% bundle discount applies. If you are unsure, book a trial class and we'll diagnose the specific gap.
The Brain Jack Method™ is Ms Shiny's coaching framework, developed over ten years of teaching Singapore students. It combines cognitive psychology, covering memory, attention and deliberate practice, with writing-specific technique.
Every one of our programmes is built on this foundation. Read the full Brain Jack page for a deeper dive.
pCloud is our digital resource library: 28 essay themes with hundreds of ready-to-use ideas, annotated model paragraphs, and video walkthroughs from Ms Shiny. It is a self-paced tool rather than live coaching.
pCloud works well as a supplement to live classes, or on its own for self-motivated students. One-time S$299 for lifetime access. Full details here.
Bootcamps are 4-day intensives held during Singapore's school holidays, in June and November. Each covers one specific skill, such as argumentative essays or AQ mastery, with 12 hours of live coaching, same-day marking, and a personalised roadmap.
They suit students who want concentrated work on one weakness during a break. See the June 2026 intakes.
Yes. Both N(A) and N(T) students preparing for N-Level English are welcome in Elite Writers and Compre Conquerors. The frameworks are the same, and N-Level students often benefit most from structured coaching.
Yes. Every programme offers a 1:1 private coaching option alongside small-group classes. One-to-one is fully personalised to your child's weaknesses, carries no shared class pace, and gets the fastest turnaround on marked work.
1:1 pricing: S$850 per month for O-Level, S$950 per month for A-Level, based on 4 sessions monthly.

Our policies vary by format:
- Monthly programmes, cancel anytime. No refunds on months already started, but no long-term contracts either.

Trial & Enrolment.
6 questions · 2 min readYes. We offer three trial formats:
- Small Group Trial, 45 minutes, no charge. Sit in on a live class.
- 1:1 Private Trial, 60 minutes, S$80. Personal diagnostic session with Ms Shiny.
- Virtual Consultation, 30 minutes, no charge. A Zoom call, no trial class, purely a strategy discussion.
Four steps:
- WhatsApp or message us to express interest
- We send a short onboarding form covering your child's level, weaknesses and schedule
- Attend a trial class, either at no charge or S$80 depending on the format
- Confirm enrolment and receive your first-month schedule and welcome pack
Typical timeline is 3 to 7 days from first message to first class.
Programmes run on rolling intakes every term, in January, April, July and October. Students can join at any point in a term, and our small-group classes are designed to accommodate mid-term entry through personalised catch-up.
Bootcamps have fixed dates, in June and November.
No entrance tests. We accept students across the grade spectrum, from those struggling at C or D to those pushing for A1. The trial class itself serves as a diagnostic to make sure the programme fits.
Yes. All classes run on Zoom, with optional in-person attendance for Singapore-based families. Overseas students, especially Singaporean families abroad, are very welcome. We currently coach students in Australia, the UK, the USA, and across Asia.
That is exactly why we offer trials. If the trial class doesn't feel right, don't enrol. We would rather you find the correct fit than force a mismatch. If you have already enrolled and want to cancel within the first month, we refund the unused sessions pro-rata.
About The Classes.
5 questions · 2 min readO-Level small groups have a maximum of 8 students. A-Level GP small groups have a maximum of 6. Classes are kept intentionally small so Ms Shiny can personally mark every student's essays and give individual feedback, which is not possible in a centre of twenty or more.
Both options are available. Most classes run on Zoom in a camera-on, interactive format. Singapore-based families can opt for in-person sessions at our study space in central Singapore. Hybrid attendance is also possible, so you can switch between online and in-person as your schedule demands.
All classes are recorded. If your child misses a session through illness or an unavoidable clash, they receive the recording within 24 hours, plus a 30-minute one-to-one catch-up if needed. We don't penalise missed classes.
Expect one essay per week, roughly 60 to 90 minutes of work. We deliberately keep homework manageable, because deep practice matters more than volume. Every essay is marked in detail by Ms Shiny and returned within 5 days.
Yes, for the first class. After that we encourage parents to step back, because children tend to participate more freely when they are not being observed. We send weekly progress notes and host quarterly parent-teacher Zoom check-ins so you stay fully informed.
Results & Expectations.
4 questions · 2 min readStructure is the fastest thing to fix, so most families see cleaner, better-organised work in the marked essays within the first few weeks. That part is usually visible before any grade moves.
How quickly the grade itself moves depends on three things: where your child is starting from, how much they write between sessions, and how close the exam is. A student who came in at C and writes every week moves differently from one who came in at B3 and writes only in class.
Rather than quote a timeline we cannot stand behind, Ms Shiny will give you an honest read after the diagnostic essay, including whether she thinks the target grade is realistic in the time you have.
No. No honest tutor can guarantee a grade, because the outcome depends on the student's effort, consistency and engagement as much as on the teaching.
What we do commit to: personal marking on every essay, a personalised roadmap, and transparent weekly progress tracking. If the effort is there, the work improves, and the grade tends to follow.
First we diagnose why. Often the issue is engagement, external stress, or a mismatch with the programme format rather than the teaching itself. Ms Shiny schedules a parent conversation and we adjust, sometimes by moving the child to 1:1, sometimes by pausing to reassess motivation.
If after honest adjustment the programme still isn't working, we will tell you so and recommend you move on. We would rather lose a student than keep one who is not progressing.
Yes. Visit our Testimonials and Before & After Results pages. Each case study sets out where the student started, what changed, and where they ended up, with the family's permission.
Scheduling & Logistics.
6 questions · 3 min readWeekday evenings from 5 PM to 8 PM, and weekend mornings and afternoons from 10 AM to 4 PM. Exact slots depend on your child's programme and level, and we send the current schedule after the trial class. 1:1 private coaching can be scheduled around your family's availability.
Small-group classes run 2 hours weekly. 1:1 private sessions run 1.5 hours weekly. Bootcamps run 3 hours daily for 4 days. Parent webinars run 90 minutes plus Q&A.
Basic requirements:
- A laptop or desktop computer. Tablets work but are not ideal for writing.
- A webcam, as cameras must be on during class
- A stable internet connection
- Zoom installed. We send the meeting link before every class.
- A quiet study space
Our in-person study space is in central Singapore, with the exact address shared after a trial booking. It is MRT-accessible and has private rooms for 1:1 coaching.
Yes. You can pause for up to 4 weeks per term without losing your slot. We usually recommend staying enrolled during exams, since continuity is valuable at exactly that point, but the pause option is always there.
WhatsApp is the primary channel. Enrolled families get a direct WhatsApp line for essay queries, scheduling and general questions, with responses within 24 hours and often much faster. For formal matters such as refunds or pauses, email hello.pocketmsshiny@gmail.com.
No questions match that search. Try a different word, or message us directly and we'll answer it personally.
